Francis Hopkinson & William Turnbull Signed Revolutionary War French Loan Certificate FRANCIS HOPKINSON, Signer of the Declaration of Independence. Partially printed Document Signed, “Fr. Hopkinson”, as the Treasurer of Loans for the Continental Congress, dated March 30, 1780, for $36 to Thomas Leiper, Choice Crisp About Uncirculated. The form is printed in colorful gold and black ink and endorsed by Thomas Smith as Commissioner of the Continental Loan Office for Pennsylvania, in the amount of $36 against funds provided by a French Loan to America. Endorsed on the verso by Thomas Leipert and authorised by the French Prime Minister, on the verso, and further endorsed “Wm Turnbull” as agent, in bold brown ink. (We sold a similar certificate in 1999 at $1,150.) Just a couple of well hidden tiny ink errosion spots.
