THOMAS MIFFLIN. Partly-printed Document Signed, “Tho: Mifflin,” as Governor of Pennsylvania, on vellum, June 16, 1795, Printed by F. & R. Bailey, 10.75” x 20.75,” Very Fine. Countersigned by James Trimble as Deputy Secretary. This is a land grant: “In consideration of monies paid,” Galeb and Owen Foulke, William Chancellor and John Davis are granted a tract of land in Luzerne County called “Rochester.” Mifflin has signed at upper left, under the large paper seal. His signature is 3” long, somewhat faded; the paper seal is toned, with a few missing points from the star-like arms on the upper left. Another paper seal is affixed on the back of the document; on it, an embossed image portrays a figure of Liberty with a sword, staff and cap. The “Inrollment” seal from the state of Pennsylvania is also affixed to the back. There are normal folds, lovely toning, an edge split, and a small hole--not affecting the text. Small vignette print of the state seal adds to the document’s eye appeal. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
