1839 W.H. Roane Signed Letter to J. K. PAULDING

Autographs
(JAMES KIRKE PAULDING), Secretary of the Navy under President Van Buren.
Autograph Letter Signed, “W.H. Roane,” a Senator from Virginia, on plain, embossed paper, sent to “Hon. J.K. Paulding,” May 15, 1839, Tree Hill, Richmond, VA, 10” x 8,” Choice Very Fine. Roane introduces William Walker of Norfolk, VA, who was seeking “...to obtain a situation in the Navy for a son who is very anxious to enter that service.” Hand-delivered letter, no postmark, in excellent condition. Paulding (1778-1860) was Secretary of the Navy under Van Buren from 1838 to 1841, and a prolific literary figure. Roane was a congressman from Virginia from 1815-1817, and a Senator from 1837-1841.
