JOHN J. PERSHING.
Pencil and Charcoal Illustration Signed “John J. Pershing,” 14” x 17”, Choice Extremely Fine. Signed and dated by the artist, “D.A. Ahrens, 1942.” A waist-up portrait of Pershing in a business suit, seated at a desk. Signed in black ink at lower right. Pershing (1860-1948) was Commander-in-Chief of American Expeditionary Forces In World War I. When this drawing was made, Pershing was in declining health; he had taken up residence in Walter Reed Hospital in 1940 and received visitors there until his death in 1948.
