Painter Thomas Sully “I have no personal photographs...”

THOMAS SULLY, American Painter.
Autograph Letter Signed “Thos. Sully,” September 26, 1859, Philadelphia, 7.75” x 5”, Choice Very Fine. Written to an unidentified admirer: “I am not aware that a portrait of me has been engraved. I have no personal photographs or would cheerfully send you one.” The letter is mounted to an 11.5” x 8” heavier stock sheet. Minor soiling; otherwise, boldly written and signed. Sully was one of the leading portrait painters of his day; his subjects included the Marquis de Lafayette, Jefferson, Madison, Jackson, and Queen Victoria.
