American Revolution
Reference to Lord Cornwallis, and a Letter from Benjamin Franklin !

January 1778, THE GENTLEMAN’S MAGAZINE, London, England, Very Fine.
8” x 5”, 2-column layout, pp. 1-48. By Sylvanus Urban, “Printed by D. Henry at St. John’s Gate.” Disbound, lacking covers and missing back page and lacking map. Interesting assortment of news, literature, and perspectives. Nice woodcut on cover, with a variation of the brick towers--this one with a man with a wheelbarrow and a female servant with a basket balanced on her head. Interesting cross-section of news, including a debate in Parliament about “conquering America.” Page 15 has a letter from Benjamin Franklin and two other “Commissioners,” who appeal to Lord North for an exchange of prisoners--signed in print. Page 41 has a printed letter from the “London Gazette" from Gen. Howe to Lord Germain, regarding Cornwallis. Page 11 has a letter which addresses the “Rev. Dr. Robertson" on his publication of “The History of America," which is reviewed on pp. 25-26. Toned pages; small slit near binding. A wonderful edition from the Revolutionary war era.
