American Revolution
Connecticut, June 1, 1782, Treasury-Office Certificate, Anderson CT-19, Choice Uncirculated.
4.5” x 8,” indented along the left side, nice, clean, and bright. Signed by Peter Colt as Treasurer (he signed all of the certificates with serial numbers 10,000 and above). According to Anderson, “Soldiers or their dependents usually received four such notes to cover the balance due them; each note was redeemable in a different year.” These notes were actually better than any paper money the soldier might have received, since they were payable in Gold or Silver only!
