Snuff Boxes
c. 1790, Black Lacquered Snuffbox with Print: “LE BON DIABLE,” Choice Very Fine.
3.5” diameter round snuffbox with lid covered with black and orange print: “LE BON DIABLE,” featuring a man in coat and tri-corner hat playing a game with two sticks, string and a dowel, a horned creature behind a table, and a man in the background amorously accosting a woman in a long flowing gown. Caption is written in French: “su les effets diaboliques du Jeu a la mode,” against a dark background. Lacquered lid is chipped along the edges and along bottom half, but generally is quite nice.
