Misc. Decorative Arts
Sketch of a Steam-and-Sail-Powered Vessel

c. 1840, Hand-drawn Nautical Sketch of a Steam-and-Sail-Powered Vessel, Choice Very Fine.
Image size 15.5” x 18.75”, framed under glass in a contemporary, plain wooden frame to an overall size of 19” x 22.5”. Unsigned, appears to be done in charcoal. The amateurish style is definitely Folk Art-ish, making it a very attractive and desirable item. The ship’s name is not known, but further research may be able to uncover it, as the ship has a distinctive style: three masts, a small smokestack and lifeboat in the center, and another large lifeboat towards the stern. A great-looking item that is ready to be hung and displayed.
