Continental Currency Rare $80 Contemporary Counterfeit
January 14, 1779, $80, Contemporary Tory Counterfeit, About Extremely Fine. An interesting punch cancel is used in the center of this note to be certain it will never again see it’s way into circulation. A c. 1779 counterfeit, as listed in Newman, printed in both red and black ink as per the genuine specimens. Slightly irregular margins, specially at lower left. Missing from most collections and certainly an important piece of American financial and Revolutionary War history.
