1st carving by Jean-Babtiste Gourde titled: "Le Capitaine", 22" H x 18" W, basswood. Jean-Baptiste Gourde was born March 3, 1921 in Daaguam (Bellechasse) a self taught carver. He setup shop on July 1st, 1970 in Port-Joli. 2nd carving by Serge Marier, a large work depicting a farmer with hat in hand leaning on his scythe taking a break from his chores, 29" H x 17" W by 2" D. Serge Marier was born in Quebec on September 11, 1953. His uncle Treffle' spent 3 or 4 years teaching him how to handle the gouge and the chisel. In 1973 Serge Marier went to LA Vasttringue shop operated by Pierre Bourgault. Condition: Minor nicks and abrasions consistent with age.
