Militaria
English Naval Captain’s Chapeau and Epaulets

Turn of The Century, English Naval Lieutenant’s Tote Case, Chapeau & Epaulets, Very Fine.
Housed in a decorated, black-and-red painted metal box, 18” long, 9” high, 9” wide, with brass “Gieves” coat of arms, “C.R.D. Messenger, R.N.” painted in gold, and a paper tag: “H.M.S. ‘Excellent’ / Portsmouth ... Cabin...” Worn and battered metal box protects the gold-colored naval epaulets, and black and gold, fur-trimmed captain’s “chapeau,” by Caffin & Son of Chatham. Moth-worn in a few small places, but the hat is quite nice overall, with impressive gold metallic braiding. Quite handsome.
