1771, “PARTIE DE L’AMERIQUE...” & “CANADA...,” by Rigobert Bonne, Lot of 2, Paris, France, Choice Near Mint.
Set of two maps, handcolored in outline, both with very pale, even toning:
1. “PARTIE DE L’AMERIQUE SEPTENTRIONALE,” 11.75” x 17” copper-engraved map on large sheet, 14.5” x 19” overall. Featuring Labrador, Canada, Hudson Bay, Baffin Bay, and Greenland. Large cartouche in upper left corner is beautifully illustrated and colored in luscious green, gold, red, and brown tones. All locations are identified in French. Likely pulled from a volume, as this map is numbered “XXXIV / A 32.”
2. A nice companion to the above map, also handcolored in outline, 11.5” x 17,” on larger sheet, 14.5” x 19.” Featuring the eastern coast from Florida up to Canada, and as far west as the Gulf of Mexico up to Canada, including the northern edge of the Louisiana Territory. Printed in French, identifying the Great Lakes, the thirteen colonies, as well as “Louisiane.” This map is numbered “XXXV / B 32.”
