c. 1781, 20 Maps relating to the Voyages of Captain James Cook, Choice Very Fine. Published in London by Alexander Hogg for use as illustrations in books describing Capt. James Cook’s voyages. Each map is disbound; most measure 9.25" x 14" overall, some smaller, some larger. The following maps are included: 1. Map of Kerguelen’s Land called by C. Cook Island of Desolation. Trimmed tightly along the bottom edge. 2. A Draught of Bonthain Bay Situated about 30 Leagues to the SE of Macassar in the Island of Celebes. Nice quality. 3. Three Views of the Admiralty Isles. Printed off-kilter, but still completely on the paper. 4. A Chart of Captn. Carteret’s Discoveries at New Britain, with Part of Captn. Cook’s Passage thro Endeavor Streights, & of Captn. Dampier’s Tract & Discoveries in 1699, & 1700, at New Guinea & New Britain. Excellent centering and quality. 5. Queen Charlotte’s Islands. Nice quality, trimmed unevenly and close at top. 6. Nova Hibernia. Cock-eyed printing, but all on the sheet. 7. The North side of the largest of Queen Charlotte’s Islands... One toning spot; faintly toned on the extreme outer edges; otherwise choice. 8. A View of the NW Side of Mas-A-Fuera. Trimmed along the top and bottom edges. 9. [Various Island profiles]. Wide margins around a slightly rotated printing. 10. {Various Harbor maps]. Heavy dampstain in the upper right quadrant. 11. Chart of Cook’s Strait in New Zealand. Nice centering and margins. 12. A Chart of the Islands discovered in the Neighbourhood of Otaheite... Dampstained across the bottom. 13. View of Shelter Island bearing ENE. Lightly toned and soiled; two marginal tears (one repaired) on the right side. 14. Sketch of the Typa and Macao. Great vignettes; dampstained along the top right edge. 15. Three Views of Arched Point on Kergueelen’s Land. Lightly toned on the extreme outer edges. Five, nice profile views. 16. Plan of the Bay of Aatska on the East Coast of Kamtschatka. Splatter and stain on the upper right side. 17. Views of the Land on the West Coast of America to the Westward of Cooks River. Trimmed into the border along the top edge; wrinkled at top right. Includes numerous profile views of this area. 18. Views on the Coast of Kamtschatka. A nice, uniform appearance. 19. Sketch of the Harbour of Samganooda, on the Island Oonalaska. Faint toning; unevenly trimmed at top, just hitting the left side of the top edge. 20. Views on the Coast of Asia. Minor dampstaining and foxing.
