Phillip Schuyler (1733-1804) Revolutionary War General. Schuyler commanded a unit that advanced on Lake George during the French and Indian War. He was chosen a delegate to the Second Continental Congress and was assigned by George Washington to assemble an army to invade Canada. Schuyler did not command the force, because of illness, but he took some of the blame for its failure to achieve its goal. 7 ˝" x 12" autograph letter signed, no place or date, to Stephen Van Rensselaer. "…General Rensselaer is come up to divide the personal estate of his Father. Mrs. Schuyler insists upon my being present I suppose to afford her protection against the old Lady…."Van Rensselaer was Schuyler's son-in-law and founded Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Paper loss where removed from the seal, breaks in the folds.
