Edmond C. Genet (1763-1834) French diplomat. "Citizen Genet" was the French ambassador to the United States during the French Revolution. Genet plotted against Spain while outfitting privateers in United States ports to prey on British commerce. Washington demanded his recall after Genet criticized the presidents stance on neutrality. 7 ˝" x 9 1/4" autograph letter signed in the third person, "Prospect Hill," May 12, 1825, to Doctor Romeyer Beck. "Mr. Genet has received Doctor Beck's letter…and has attended to it…." The integral address panel, addressed by Genet and docketed by Beck bears a red circular postmark.
