1847 Postal Cover – Scott US # 1 three nice margins, close at bottom. The five cent stamp of 1847 was one of the first adhesive postage stamps authorized for issue by the Post Office Department, in response to a law passed on March 3, 1847. 5" x 3 ¼" postal cover with the five cent Benjamin Franklin stamp with a red circular cancellation "New York May 17."
