Union Gen GEORGE McCLELLAN - Autograph Ltr Signed
Description
George B. McClellan (1826-1885) Union General. McClellan organized the Army of the Potomac and served briefly as the General-in-Chief of the Union Army. His performance at the bloody Battle of Antietam blunted Lee's invasion of Maryland, but allowed Lee to eke out a precarious tactical draw and avoid destruction, despite being outnumbered. As a result, McClellan's leadership skills during battles were questioned by Lincoln, who eventually removed him from command. 5" x 3 ¾" concluding portion of an autograph letter signed, "…With my sincere thanks for the promptness with which you have complied with the requests contained in my letter…Geo B McClellan. P.S. May I trouble you to send the enclosed to the Post Office." Mounted.
