Description
Volunteer Service. 8" x 9 3/4" partially printed document, July 31, 1861. The document is a discharge for a soldier answering Lincoln's call to service after the Confederate attack on Fort Sumpter on April 12, 1861. Nathan Couch, twenty-six years old, enlisted on April 19,1861 as a corporal in the 1st Regiment of Connecticut Volunteers. Couch served his three months and was discharged on July 31, 1861. The document is signed by E. E. Wildenman. There is a slight tear in one fold, toned with age spotting.
