Description
Provost Marshall's Office, District of Dakota Territory. 7 ¾" x 9 ¾", three pages, November 27, 1863, to Jacob Devel and signed by George P. Waldron. "…You are instructed 1st to use all due diligence in the arrest of deserters…It will be your duty then to have an eye to every stranger…take possession of any clothes, arms, military outfits and accouterments…in the possession of any one not authorized to have the same…report all facts against any and all persons…who shall harbor, conceal or give employment to a deserter…." Some surface soiling, four fold breaks have been repaired with tape.
