Description
William Wells (1837–1902) Union General. Wells commanded the Second Battalion, 1st Vermont Cavalry, during the Gettysburg Campaign. In the famous and desperate cavalry charge on Big Round Top on the third day at Gettysburg, 8 ½" x 3 ¼" check written and signed, "Wells Richardson & Co.," Merchants National Bank of Burlington, April 19, 1881. A Revenue stamp is affixed and the cancellation stamp is away from the signature.
