Description
Samuel Cooper (1798-1876) C.S.A. General. Jefferson Davis appointed Cooper Adjutant and Inspector General of the Confederate Army. Made a full General later in 1861, he remained throughout the War the highest ranking officer of the Confederate Army. 8 ¼" x 3 ¾" postal cover with a franking signature under a "Adjutant General's Office" stamp.
