Gorgeous tianhuang soapstone seal chop surmounted with exquisitely carved bi-hsieh mythical beast. In Chinese culture, the bi-hsieh is a mythical lion who represents a guardian figure. Additionally, the bi-hsieh is believed to swallow everything without letting anything out, so it is a symbol of bringing wealth from all directions and also to drive away evil and bring in good luck. In ancient China the bi-hsieh was also believed to be a kind of “Fierce Beast” and used as a term for brave troops. Base with a carved four character calligraphic mark in high relief and with residual red ink paste.

Shoushan stone has more than 120 different types, which can be classified into three categories of Tian Keng stone, Shui Keng stone, and Shan Keng stone. Tian Keng stone is a kind of rare material with the best quality, which can be classified into four categories according to the color, i.e., Tian Huang stone, Tian Bai stone, Tian Hei stone, and Tian Hong stone.
