784. ELBERT HUBBARD (1856-1915). American author, editor and printer who perished with the Lusitania. Hubbard founded the Roycroft Press to produce high-quality artistic books. His moral essay, Message to Garcia (1899) found immediate success with numerous translations and reprints. His book catalog, The Book of the Roycrofters, 6½"x7¾", East Aurora, NY, ca. 1900. Darkly inscribed and signed on first free endpaper in black ink, "To Fred. N. Mayer in loving token of his Little Journey to East Aurora..." Annotated in pencil in another hand including date "7/26/02" beneath signature. Lovely soft chamois bound ornate catalog with commentary regarding Roycrofters books for sale, hand illuminations, and several fine photographs of various artisans at work in the shop who produced these famous artistic books. Light edgewear and minor soiling; front inside silk pastedown torn at left margin with some paper loss. Generally in very good condition. A wonderful example of Roycroft artistry. Est: $100-200
