Original steel engraving plate of Phillip Lindsley portrait, 3 volumes of "The Life and Works of Philip Lindsley", and the Lindsley's 1806 Cruden's Concordance Bible. (Note history of Philip Lindsley - president of Princeton and University of Nashville). 1st item - Original steel plate engraving of Philip Lindsley. This plate engraving is the one used in the "The Life and Works of Philip Lindsley". Condition - residue and abrasions commensurate for age. 7 1/8" x 11" plate size. Early 19th century. 2nd item - "The Life and Works of Philip Lindsley," ed. By Le Roy J. Halsey, 3 vols., published 1864. Vol. 1: Educational includes transcriptions of several speeches given by Lindsley during his time as President at Cumberland College, later the University of Nashville (which eventually became Vanderbilt Medical School). Vol. 2: Theological includes several of his sermons. Vol. 3- Miscellaneous includes essays by Lindsley on his thoughts regarding various topics of the day including slavery, democracy, temperance, and "Nashville, by a Kentuckian." Three fascinating volumes of writings by Lindsley (1786-1855), referred to by Halsey as "one of the leading spirits of his time." Each volume 9in x 6 1/2 in, some grime and spotting to covers, overall very good condition. 3rd item -1806 edition of Cruden's Concordance to The Holy Scriptures, hand inscribed "John Berrien Lindsley, Gift of his affectionate father, Philip Lindsley." 12in by 9 1/2 in, fair to fragile condition with loose binding, brittle leather, foxing/possible water damage to pages.
