Rare painted North Carolina blanket chest of diminutive size. Brown grain painted chest with yellow painted panels to simulate bird's eye maple, interior till, turned feet. Poplar throughout. Original hardware, surface untouched. Descended from Henry Grady of Mount Olive area of North Carolina. Henry Grady was a merchant, country doctor, and Justice of the Peace. He died August 31, 1834, and is buried in the family cemetery on White Hall Road. Condition - overall very good condition with expected abrasions and scratches for age, wear to paint surface on top and lower right side. 37 1/4" width x 21 1/2" depth x 27 3/4" height. Second quarter of the 19th century.
