Two (2) Southern alkaline glazed stoneware jars found in Rural Retreat, Virginia. Probably Virginia or North Carolina. 1st item - Green glazed alkaline jar with white drips, sine wave incising with straight line incising around the shoulder of the jar. Curved rim has an inside ledge for a lid, now missing. Condition - two small drill holes visible in base, old firing crack at base (no hairlines visible). 12 1/8" height. 19th century. 2nd item - stoneware jar with incised lines around upper shoulder, salt glaze drip at shoulder showing traces of blue rutile. Excellent condition. 9 7/8" height. 19th century. Hearn estate.
