Oil on canvas by William Rau (1874 - 1956), signed lower left corner, "W. Rau 05". William Rau was born in New York City and exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago (1907-1911), the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (1913), and the Society of Independent Artists 1917. Illustration depicting children performing school work at a table. Painting in a gilt carved frame, possibly original. Edith Alberti Estate Craven Co, NC. Condition - small hole near bottom center margin, scattered light abrasions, old losses and repaint to gilt frame. 7 1/2" x 9 1/4" sight, 12 1/4" x 14 1/8".
