ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT MINIATURE, Italy, 12th century. An initial 'C' historiated with an image of Christ expelling a demon.

[Italy, 12th century]. A small initial "C" (65 x 60 mm), cut from an illuminated manuscript on vellum. The initial with decorative work in red and blue, the image of Christ with his right arm raised to bless a recumbent figure, from whom a demon is consequently expelled, the figures drawn in brown and red with touches of gold on a blue ground, 8 lines of text on verso. Condition: some oxidisation, old creasing and slight loss of painted surface. A charming early Italian miniature.
