Decorated manuscript on paper, 15th century. A Latin lectionary or prayer book.
[Germany?, ca. 1450-1500] . Folio (299 x 201 mm). [134] leaves, later pencil pagination. Incomplete, lacking one or more leaves at end. Double column. 34 lines in brown ink in a cursive hand between four verticals and 35 horizontals ruled in brown. Rubricated: chapter headings, headlines, and Lombard initials in red, a few wit pen-work extenders. Watermark of hearts crossed by vertical arrow (not found in Piccard). Deckle edges, pinholes visible throughout. Modern plain boards, calf spine (broken). Condition:: stains, a few tears, browing at beginning and end, last few leaves dampstained, final two leaves chipped and faded. A prayer book and lectionary , with readings for every Sunday throughout the year, by a Carthusian priest or monk.Images
