From Supplement to Denis Diderot's ''Encyclopedie'' discussing the Northern Passage. Larger inset shows small islands east of Kamchatka. In the smaller inset, Kamchatka lies west of a larger landmass (probably Alaska) and southwest of ''Mer d'An adir,'' and a long narrow island or peninsula is to the east of the eastern tip of Asia. Main map includes Spitsberg Islands, northern Scandanavia, Siberia, and portions of Asia.
