Double-plage engraved map of Israel, Palestine, the Sinai Peninsula, Lebanon, and surrounding areas. From Abraham Ortelius's ''Theatrum Orbis Terrarum,'' Antwerp: 1574. 13 3/4 x 18 3/8 in. Latin text on one side of verso with folio 66 in lower margin. Early full hand-coloring, five ships in waters with three sea monsters. Phillips (Atlases) 379. Slight variation from image pictured in Nebenzahl's Maps of the Holy Land, pp84-5 (dated 1570, coloring quite different, three ships and no monsters in the waters).
