Portugese coastal colony, now a Brazilian state. Includes roads, main village, and two forts near the mouth of the Rio de Parayba. Numerous engraved ships and trees, inset of Brazilian coast oriented to the west, spanning from the Rio Peguihuga to Bahia de Todos Sanctos. ++ Eroberung Der Vestung Provancon Zu Porto Calvo In Brasilia...Anno 1637. Battle between Portuguese and Dutch forces near Porto Calvo, capital of Alagoas, Brazil. The Netherlands seized control of Alagoas in 1630. Cartouche upper left left blank. Units are represented by groups of men marching in formation in southeastern portion of map and at center; replete with rows of tents or barracks, cannon installations, and walled areas, some with flags. c.1637-1680. Possible source: ''Theatrum Europaeum'' compiled by Abelin, et al, published by Hoffman in Frankfurt, Germany.
