6 views only of 10, one titled South Front of The Mansion House and Conservatory, others lacking titles but include the east front and views of the gardens and various fountains, original hand-coloured aquatints by Martin and F.C. Lewis, each c.290 x 420mm, trimmed within the plate mark but well outside image, one retaining title, surface dirt, some creasing, one with two tears in the left margin, one just into image, [?Sezincote, Sir. Charles Cockerell], c.1818 (6)***Extremely rare. In 1817 the famous artist of apocalyptic visions, John Martin (1789-1854), was engaged by Sir Charles Cockerell to depict Sezincote House in the Cotsworlds, recently built by his brother Samual Pepys Cockerell, from a design based on drawings brought back from India by Thomas Daniell. In 'The Illustrator and the Book in England', Gordon N. Ray writes "This early book is so rare as to be virtually unknown, yet it is one of the masterpieces of aquatinting.".
