R.S. Duncanson view of Asheville,

North Carolina (Robert Scott Duncanson, Ohio, 1821-1872), view includes one structure still standing (Ravenscroft School), signed verso under lining "RS Duncanson 1850," oil on canvas, lined, wax and linen, original stretcher, 23-1/2 x 34-3/4 in., original 19th century mahogany veneer ogee-molded frame; lot accompanied by original 35 mm slides of original signature prior to lining. Light retouch, two periods restoration primarily at edges, some within sky and mountaintops; frame with repairs, refinished. Provenance: James W. Patton (1803-1861) of Asheville, North Carolina, purchased painting from the artist. Painting descended to consignor (Mary Parker), great-granddaughter of James W. Patton.
