Oh the humanity! Offered here is a piece of the Hindenburg, the famed German Zeppelin that crashed on the New Jersey shore in 1937 after an uneventful trans-Atlantic flight. The small wooden piece, framed shadowbox style with other items, measures just under 1 square inch. It is accompanied by a piece of newspaper, a small plaque, and a sworn affidavit by a witness. The witness states that: 'I was present at the destruction of the Hindenburg on May 6, 1937 at Lakehurst, New Jersey... I further declare that some of the crew members did give me some pieces of fabric material and pieces of aluminum girder removed from the remains of the Hindenburg. I further declare that I have transferred one piece of the girder from the Hindenburg... plus one piece of fabric material, attached to a thin piece of wood with another piece of fabric glued to the back of it.' It is presumed that the offered piece is or is part of the 'thin piece of wood' mentioned above. The affidavit was signed in 1981, with witnesses and notarized. A great story piece for history buffs.
