1974 HANDPRINT OF 'HAM' THE CHIMP

Authentic hand print of 'HAM' who on 3 January 1961 traveled on a 16-minute sub-orbital flight aboard an operational Mercury capsule. An 8"x10" black & white official NASA photo of Ham taken in 1967 with violet dittoed info on reverse is included as well as a letter on Smithsonian Institution National Zoological Park official stationery concerning the request for Ham's fingerprints. On the horizontally folded 8½"x7½" white piece of paper containing the black ink fingerprints of the chimp is a signed & dated (January 22, 1974) statement by Ham's handler. The Smithsonian letter is signed by the Public Information Officer. The handprint was taken while the chimp was anesthetized for his annual tuberculosis sensitivity test. This is the only handprint of Ham's that we have ever seen. The equivalent of an autograph, this item is the forerunner of all that was to follow. Not only rare, but interesting and essential to the completeness of any space autograph collection. (Certificate of Authenticity from Todd Mueller Autographs)
