1959 LUNA 2 COMMEMORATIVE MEDALLIONS

Pair of titanium medallions in a velvet lined wood box. Medallions are brightly polished with CCCP on both. One is symmetrical & has Soviet coat of arms on front, CCCP star & September 1959 on back. Non-symmetrical has same designs only front & back reversed. (September is in Russian). Luna 2 impacted the Moon on 14 September 1959. Inside cover has a map of the moon in black & white with point of impact indicated by a red triangular flag. Box measures 3½"x5"x1¼". Medallions about 1¢" across.
