Original Painting of Historic Balloon Pioneer DeRozier An original illustration (36x28") done in possibly Gouache Winsor-Newton colors, and/or acrylics , which is framed (to 44x36") in a wooden frame. This painting was used as a background for a NASA film on the history of flight, which included an interview with Mrs. Jeannette Piccard, widow of famed balloonist Jean Piccard, who was the twin brother of the famous Swiss balloonist Auguste Piccard. In October 1934, Jeannette Piccard, along with her husband, piloted the former Century of Progess balloon into the stratosphere; and, as such, Jeanette became the first woman to fly at that altitude. She gained much fame as a result of this and other flights, and ultimately served as a consultant to NASA's manned spacecraft center in Houston between 1964 and 1970. This artwork was done at AV Teaching Films in Houston, TX in the 1960's. Some faults, but a very attractive piece.
