Pad Emergency Air Pack (PEAP) Designed for Apollo crew members to use in case of an emergency on the launch pad, the astronaut was to loop the strap on this pack (17" x 9" x 5") over his neck and plug into the ventilation system of his spacesuit to provide an air supply while he slid down the escape wire. This piece of equipment is comprised of two little pressure bottles in an enclosed chestpack with a neck ring. Instructions read: "1. Neck strap on, 2. Connectors in hard! A) red to red B) blue to blue, 3. Air supply on, 4. Suit diverter valve vertical". Packed in its original wooden crate (24" x 15" x 10") with serial numbers and NASA stickers, one of which reads "NASA Critical Space Item - Handle with Extreme Care". Exceptionally rare piece of critical equipment. Must see to appreciate.
