Illustrations from engravings, photos, etc. 9¼x6½, bound in ¾ black calf & cloth, spine lettered in gilt, edges evenly trimmed.With 41 articles taken from various issues of The Century Magazine, bound together, with a 2-page typed contents prepared by some unknown individual. Owner's signature erased in front, leaving "San Francisco, 1939." Articles include: Hydraulic Mining in California; Father Junipero and His Work (2 parts); The Treasures of the Yosemite; Fremont in the Conquest of California; The Discovery of Gold in California; Pioneer Days in San Francisco; Vigilance Committees; Across the Plains in the Donner Party; A Miner's Sunday in Coloma, etc., etc.
