Title: Silver Mining Regions of Colorado: With Some Account of the Different Processes Now Being Introduced for Working the Gold Ores of that Territory.
Author: Whitney, J[oel] P[arker]
Description: [iv], 107 pp. (8vo) 7¼x4¾, original green cloth stamped in gilt on front cover. Third Printing.First published in 1865 in pamphlet form, this edition apparently published for the Universal Exposition at Paris, 1867 at which Whitney represented the Colorado Territory in its mineral exhibition. Whitney's enthusiasm was unbounded by reason; he writes "We find a belt of pyritous gold veins in Colorado surpassing in richness any known in the world, to which the gold fields of California bear no comparison." The work includes an important printing of the mining laws of the Gregory and Union districts in Gilpin and Clear Creek counties, perhaps the earliest published record of these important mining laws. Howes W388.
