"Billinghurst's Patent Aug. 9, 1859, Rochester NY" Marked Brass Birdcage Fly Reel. The holder of the 4th reel patent in the US and first for a fly reel, William Billinghurst produced his reels from 1859 through 1880, renewing his patent in August of 1873. This nickel plated example, marked with the 1873 renewal date, is in good condition with handle replacement and some brass showing through.
