"A.Coates Pat. Mar.20th '88 - Watertown, NY" Marked Two Speed Side Mount Trout Reel. Abraham Coates was granted patent number 379,683 for his two speed reel that allowed a switch from a 1:1 ratio to a 1:1.5 retrieve ratio by means of an alternate handle location. The post unoccupied by the screw off handle was capped off by a knurled screw, present on this example. A twist click is located on the underside of the reel and performs perfectly. With tiny apple shaped grasp on the counter balanced "S" shaped handle, this example is in very good plus condition with minimal plating loss.
