Remarkable Vom Hofe 1889 Giroud Patent Reel

Remarkable German Silver Casting Reel, Displaying a variation of the 1889 Giroud Patent. Returning to Lang's after its initial offering in July of 1992, this simply elegant reel is believed to have been the "Edward Vom Hofe New York Trade Guild Master Reel", and remains the only known example found to date in this configuration, featuring a variation of the Peter Giroud patent of 1889. The internal gear bridge of this reel is fancier than any seen thus far, and is absolutely an 1867 Vom Hofe patent design, that sits atop a fancy jeweled finish head plate. The head plate cover is held without screws, using a single knurled cap, as is the extra fancy "S" handle fitted with hard rubber grasp. With unique design flat top pillar, this reel, while unmarked, is of unquestionable quality and elegance. In excellent plus condition, worthy of a place among fine art.
