Fine Kentucky inlaid Federal chest,

cherry with poplar secondary, four graduated and dovetailed drawers with vine and leaf inlay, inlaid kite escutcheons, flanked by flowerpot and vine inlay, scalloped skirt with inlaid central drop and French feet, early 19th century, 42 x 40 x 18 in. Refinished, original feet and skirt with some original blocking, patches to foot facings, some repairs to dovetails, brasses replaced (no plugged holes), wear and minor losses to skirt, backboards have been reset and with minor restoration, one drawer with patch at escutcheon, cracks, minor finish losses, other scattered repairs and minor imperfections, inlay appears to be of the period. Provenance: Ken Farmer Auctions, 1995; Collection of the Late John Bivins A closely related chest is illustrated in [Kentucky Furniture], Speed Art Museum, 1974, catalogue number 56.
