with boldly shaped and scrolled top, white pine throughout with cut nail construction, dovetailed drawer, surface with fine original paint decoration in green, yellow and blue/black on pale salmon ground, front centering gold-stenciled leaf decoration with initials "D [star] C", back of drawer with early pencil inscription "Made by [illegible]…for his mother April 1830", American, probably New York, early 19th century, 12-5/8 x 6-1/2 x 3-1/4 in. In excellent original condition with scattered wear and abrasions to painted surface, minor cracking, abrasion and minor loss below stenciled wreath, no repairs to scrolls or hanger found. Provenance: Purchased in Bellbuckle, Tennessee
