Set of 12 Sevres Napoleonic plates:

each with portrait medallion centered on green ground with extensive gilt highlights, portraits include Napoleon I, Marie Louise, Louis Bonaparte King of Holland, Latitia Bonaparte, Joseph Bonaparte King of Spain, Pauline Bonaparte, Caroline Murat Queen of Naples, Empress Josephine, Hortense of Beauharnais Queen of Holland, Jerome Bonaparte King of Westphalia, Per Murat King of Naples, King of Rome, all signed at medallions "G.G. Georget, Sevres" (working 1802-1823), all signed on backs with red printed Sevres marks, "GG" and name of portrait subject, 9-1/4 in. Exceptionally fine condition with very minor abrasions and losses to gilt highlights and green ground. Provenance: By family account, a gift to, or purchased by, General Robert Patterson (1792-1891) from Joseph Bonaparte (1768-1844, elder brother of Emperor Napoleon), who befriended Patterson while in exile in New Jersey in the early 19th century. They descended to the triple-great granddaughter of General Patterson, from whom they were purchased by the consignor. Similar sets of plates are also discussed in Ms. Patterson's [The Old Patterson Mansion/The Master and His Guests], page 87: "For thrills the dinner service was of Royal Sevres, part of a coronation gift from the great Napoleon to his brother Joseph when made King of Spain and later forming the flotsam and jetsam, saved from the wreck of royalty when he found a safe anchorage at Point Breeze, near Bordentown, New Jersey. General Patterson bought many beautiful things from him, including this set of china. There were two sets, a green and gold set and a buff…" Reserve: $4,000
