French bedstead with finely grained mahogany and ash secondary, lyre urn and star brass inlay, and gilt caryatid figural front posts (carved wood or cast composition) attributed to Charles Honore Lannuier, New York, circa 1805-1815, 45 x 80 x 48-1/2 in., interior 74-1/4 x 42 in. Rear posts probably reduced in height and lacking crown, upper back rail a later addition, lacking original mattress supports (plugged mortises on head and foot boards and rails), possibly reduced in depth, figures regilt, cracks and separations, other repairs and possible restorations, some losses to brass inlay. This important bedstead relates to several furniture forms documented to Charles Honore Lannuier, including two card tables with very closely related brass inlay (Kenny, plates 22 and 58) a pier table with very similar gilt figural caryatids with pulled back hair and gilt feet (Kenny, plate 79), and several bedsteads (Kenny, plates 49, catalog numbers 2, 5).
