Japanese carved gilt wood Buddha,

right hand performing [vitarka mudra] with two attendants, one with hands clasped, one holding vessel, hair with blue pigment, all three standing on lotus throne floating on clouds, flames behind them, all on a two-tier waisted base, possibly from a [zushi] (traveling shrine), 19th century, 13-1/2 x 7-3/4 x 5 in. Flames and one ribbon on attendant reattached, chips, separations, possibly lacking elements, some repairs. Provenance: Descended through family from great-uncle, John H. Baxter, New Hampshire (originally from England); purchased from New York or California estate in 1930s.
